2018 so far....
After winter decided to finally arrive in late March and wreak havoc with the early season races it has been great to see the last few weekends free for racing.
Tom moved teams over the winter to join up with Bioracer-Project GO and after some warm weather training in Tenerife, including a day Everesting, has started to get stuck in with a couple of early season road races and time trials. A hard race at Gifford coupled with some mechanical issues was followed up with a positive 4th place at the Reivers road race in Berwick. Most recently competing at the The Sheriffston 10TT and Spring Bunny 25TT finishing 9th in both events (22:41 and 58:36 respectively). Next up is the Falkirk 10TT followed by the first Alba Series event, the Drummond Trophy.
Jonny also moved teams over the winter, and followed a similar path with some warm weather training in Tenerife in February. Combining training with university, racing has started to come thick and fast as the early spate of cancellations due to weather has abated. Most recently securing a top 40 finish at the Behind the Bikeshed race as well as posting a 22:55 at the BUCS 10TT. Next up is the BUCS 25TT.
I have even ventured into some racing this season, albeit running rather than cycling. With a much more increased volume of races available living in the Hamburg area as opposed to rural Aberdeenshire the running shoes have been dusted off a little a means of getting back some fitness. Recent events include the Run Garioch 5K (20:54) whilst back in Aberdeeshire on holiday and the Wilhelmsburger Insellauf 10K (45:11). A special mention as well for our eldest son Philip who completed his first race at the Run Garioch Junior Run not long after turning 4 at the start of March.
Finally, a shout out to two athletes who we greatly enjoyed working with in the past. Tony is back into the action after successfully launching his own company (check out RockSalt Subsea) and took a great 4th place at The Sheriffston 10TT over the weekend. Jamie has had a mightily impressive start to his season, taking the win over the weekend at both The Sheriffston 10TT (20: 16 for a new PB) and the Spring Bunny 25TT (53:08). One to watch out for at the Scottish Nationals in 2018!
